The Secret of The Rolling Stones
The famous moving stones on Racetrack Playa in Death Valley have filled people with wonder. Researchers had different theories to account for it. Some thought that geocachers may have been looking under the rocks for a container and ended up moving them over the course of time. Others believed that it had to do with musical airwaves that moved like Jagger or involved Dylan — aren’t we all like a rolling stone?More important were MUFON investigators who attributed it to the effects of the Clarian vortex power drive.
Aura Raines used a modified Garmin e-meter to track micro-movements on the playa and prove that these explanations were not correct. She established that light winds push sheets of ice and drag the rocks along the slippery surface, creating trails that last for years. It all seems so simple in hindsight.
